The condition of color blindness goes far beyond the confusion that can occur when identifying color. Not only is there not just one type of color blindness, but there are people who are born seeing the world in black and white! Achromatopsia (ACR) and Blue Cone Monochromacy (CAM) are very rare manifestations of color blindness. For individuals who live with them, the ColorADD® code presents itself as a solution, at a time when color identification is a fundamental element in choosing or guiding daily life.
The Universitäts-Augenklinik Tübingen, in Germany, welcomed the international scientific community specializing in ACR and CAM, in an initiative co-organized between this institution and Achromatopsie Selbsthilfe e.V. and the BCM Family Foundation. The creator of the Color Identification System – ColorADD®, Miguel Neiva, presented, at the invitation of the organizing entities, the code, also known as the “color alphabet”, a unique and inclusive language that allows the same colors interpretation worldwide.
Already a solution known and used by these communities at an international level, the presence of ColorADD® in this important scientific initiative intended to expand knowledge about it, in order to guarantee the path towards standardization of this system in color identification at an international level.
Furthermore, the Spanish, Italian and German achromatopsia associations and numerous families in which one or more members live with this condition were also present at the event.
